New Delhi and Tirupati Visits
On 31 January 2017, His Eminence Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche arrived in New Delhi, from. On 1 February 2017, His Eminence Rinpoche attended the Governing Body Meeting of Ayur Gyan Nyas. On 2 February 2017 His Eminence Rinpoche attended the welcoming of His Holiness the Dalai Lama arriving from Dharamshala. In the evening His Eminence Rinpoche gave time for many dignitaries who came for audience, consultation, etc.
On 4 February 2017, His Eminence Rinpoche arrived in Tirupati city in Andhra Pradesh state. On the following day, 5 February 2017, His Eminence Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche graced as the Chief Guest—and gave a talk—at the dual event of “91st Annual Meet of the Association of Indian Universities,” and “National Seminar on ‘Celebrating Success of Higher Education—Accomplishments and Achievements,’” organised by Sri Venkateswara University.
The event began with welcoming speech by Prof. Damodaran, Vice-Chancellor, Sri Venkateswara University, and lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Prof. Furqan Qamar, Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities, gave an introductory speech, and speeches by John Kirkland, Deputy Secretary General, Association of Commonwealth Universities, and Cesare Onestini, Deputy Minister, European Union.
His Eminence Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, as the Chief Guest, formally launched for Ventateswara University, its periodical “University News,” and thereafter His Eminence Rinpoche gave a talk, pointing out that the results of Higher Studies are not to be looked at in terms of Academic excellence and Employment, rather the ability to provide solutions to the challenges of the major problems of the humankind, such as, violence, environmental degradation, the gap between the poor and the rich, population increase, misuse of religion; and if the solutions have emerged, one can regard them as accomplishments, if there are not, no results have been achieved. His Eminence Rinpoche gave insights into these and other important matters.
Thereafter, Prof. D. S. Chauhan, President, Association of Indian Universities, gave the presiding talk. At the end, Prof. Vijaya Rao, of Sri Venkateswara University, gave the gratitude speech.
Subsequent to the opening ceremony His Eminence Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche attended, for three days (till 7 February 2017), the 91st Annual Meet of the Association of Indian Universities. The Meet was attended by Vice-Chancellors and Directors of some 320 Indian Universities.
