Meerut and Drepung Visits

On 12 October 2017 His Eminence Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche arrived in New Delhi, from Dharamshala. On the following day His Eminence Rinpoche attended some meetings, and gave time for dignitaries and people requesting for audience.

On 14 October 2017 His Eminence Rinpoche arrived in Meerut, and for the next two days set to prepare for the inaugural meet of implementing in ten Indian schools “Universal Ethics” in school curriculum, as envisioned by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

On 16 October 2017 His Holiness the Dalai Lama presided the inaugural meet; His Eminence Rinpoche gave efficient guidance in the various stages of the meet. In the evening His Eminence Rinpoche arrived in New Delhi.

On 17 October 2017 His Eminence Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche headed to Drepung Monastery, Mundgod, via Bangalore and Hubli, and upon arrival at Drepung, the honourable Abbot, Chant Leader, Disciplinarian and the Administrative Officials of Drepung Loseling Monastery accorded a revered welcome.

On 18 October 2017 His Eminence Rinpoche gave audience time for some individuals.

Thereafter, for nine days (19 October – 27 October 2017) His Eminence Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche continued, from 2015 teachings, the commentarial teachings on Nagarjuna’sThe Fundamental Wisdom and Buddhapalita’s Buddhapālitavṛtti (The Commentary Buddhapālita), in the main congregation hall of Drepung Loseling Monastery, Mundgod.

With two sessions daily in the afternoons, His Eminence Rinpoche advised extensively daily on the need to set well an altruistic motive in listening to the sublime teachings, and in maintaining appropriate conduct during the sessions, as instructed in The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment teachings. During the actual commentarial teachings on the two texts His Eminence Rinpoche gave innumerable insights into the pivotal points of the middle view.

His Eminence Rinpoche taught from Chapter Five onwards, in continuation from the commentarial teachings in 2015, when up to Chapter Four were completed then. In the present sessions His Eminence Rinpoche completed the commentarial teachings up to Chapter Eleven.

In the mornings and evenings of the present teaching sojourn at Drepung, His Eminence Rinpoche gave time for those seeking audience.

In the morning of 28 October 2017 His Eminence Prof.Samdhong Rinpoche graced The Second Panel Discussion on Buddhist Science and Modern Science, convened at Drepung Loseling Center for Science and Meditation, Mundgod. His Eminence Rinpoche gave a guidance talk on the requested theme of Secular Ethics, and answered questions. His Eminence Rinpoche stayed for the entire first day’s programme, observed the presentations of the various panel members, and as requested, gave opinions at the conclusion.

On 29 October 2017 His Eminence Rinpoche left DrepungLoseling and travelling via Bangalore arrived in Dharamshala in the evening of 30 October 2017.
